What We Like About the 840 G8

11th Gen performance with Iris Xe graphics

The Core i5-1145G7 is a quad-core, eight-thread chip with Intel's Iris Xe graphics. Compared with the UHD graphics in older EliteBooks, Iris Xe is a big step for photo editing, 1080p video playback, external monitors and light Canva or Lightroom work. Everyday Office, browser and Zoom use feels quick.

Two RAM slots

Many thin laptops now have soldered memory. The 840 G8 keeps two SO-DIMM slots, so RAM can be upgraded and repaired. Iris Xe graphics also need dual-channel memory (two sticks) to run at full speed, which the two slots make easy.

Thunderbolt 4 and modern ports

The two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports charge the laptop, drive external displays and work with USB-C docks. You still get full-size USB-A and HDMI, so you rarely need adapters at home or in the office.

Business build and security

The aluminium chassis, comfortable keyboard and HP's business security tools make the G8 a laptop that was designed for years of daily corporate use. That is exactly why so many arrive in Bangladesh in good condition.

Ready for Windows 11

11th Gen Intel processors are on Microsoft's supported list, so the 840 G8 runs Windows 11 officially and keeps receiving updates.

How the 840 G8 Feels in Daily Use

For a typical working day of Gmail, Google Sheets, Word, a Zoom call and twenty browser tabs, the 840 G8 stays responsive and quiet. The NVMe SSD means Windows starts in seconds and large Excel files open quickly.

Freelancers using Canva, Figma in the browser or light Lightroom edits will notice the Iris Xe graphics most: scrolling large designs and exporting images feels smoother than on 8th or 10th Gen EliteBooks. Plugged into a USB-C or Thunderbolt dock, it can drive an external monitor, charge and connect a keyboard and mouse through a single cable.

Under long heavy loads, such as exporting a long video, the fan becomes audible and the chip slows down to stay cool, which is normal for a thin 14-inch business laptop.

What to Keep in Mind

• Battery is used: expect less runtime than a new unit. Check the battery report on arrival.
• Not a gaming laptop: Iris Xe handles light games, but modern AAA titles need a dedicated GPU.
• Display is for office work: the standard Full HD panel is fine indoors but is not a colour-accurate screen for professional design.
• Check the RAM layout: a 16GB unit with a single 16GB stick runs Iris Xe in single-channel mode. Ask us whether the unit has one or two sticks if graphics matter to you.

HP EliteBook 840 G8 vs 840 G7 vs 840 G9

The G7 saves around ৳5,000 but has weaker graphics. The G9 is newer, with DDR5 and a taller 16:10 screen, but costs about ৳14,000 more. For most buyers the G8 sits in the sweet spot. Want the newer model? See the HP EliteBook 840 G9 Core i5 12th Gen.

8GB vs 16GB: Which Configuration?

All of our current 840 G8 units come with 16GB RAM, and we think that is the right amount. 8GB is enough for Office and browsing, but Chrome with many tabs, Zoom and Photoshop together quickly fill it. 16GB gives room for freelancing tools, coding and light editing, and it lets Iris Xe share more memory for graphics.

Between the two storage options, choose 512GB if you keep design files, videos or many projects on the laptop. For documents and cloud-based work, 256GB is enough.

How to Choose: Is the 840 G8 Right for You?

• Freelancers: yes. It handles Upwork and Fiverr work, Canva, WordPress and video calls comfortably.
• Office and bank professionals: yes. Business build, good keyboard and docking support.
• Students: yes, if your budget reaches ৳40,000. Below that, look at the 840 G5 or G6.
• Bigger screen fans: the 850 G8 gives the same platform on 15.6 inches.
• Gamers and video editors: no. Choose a laptop with a dedicated graphics card or an HP ZBook workstation.

What to Check When Your 840 G8 Arrives

1. Confirm the processor and RAM in Settings, About.
2. Run a Windows battery report and compare full charge capacity with design capacity.
3. Test both USB-C ports for charging and the HDMI port with a monitor.
4. Check the keyboard (and backlight, if fitted), webcam, microphone and speakers.
5. Look at the screen on white and black backgrounds for marks or dead pixels.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the HP EliteBook 840 G8 price in Bangladesh?

At Megabuy BD, the used HP EliteBook 840 G8 with a Core i5 11th Gen and 16GB RAM costs ৳40,400 with a 256GB SSD and ৳44,900 with a 512GB SSD. These are prices at the time of writing; used stock changes often, so check the product page for the current price.

Is the HP EliteBook 840 G8 good for freelancing?

Yes. The quad-core 11th Gen processor, 16GB RAM and Iris Xe graphics handle web research, WordPress, Canva, light photo editing and long video calls at the same time. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports make it easy to connect an external monitor, which many freelancers use for a more comfortable workspace at home.

Can I upgrade the RAM on the 840 G8?

Yes. The EliteBook 840 G8 has two SO-DIMM slots for DDR4 memory, so RAM can be replaced or upgraded rather than being soldered. Using two matching sticks also enables dual-channel mode, which helps the Iris Xe graphics. Our units already have 16GB, which is enough for most users.

Should I buy the 840 G7 or the 840 G8?

Buy the G8 if you can. It has a newer 11th Gen processor and Iris Xe graphics, which are noticeably faster for graphics, external monitors and photo work than the G7's UHD graphics. The G7 is still a good office laptop and saves some money if your work is mostly documents and browsing.
