About the HP EliteBook 840 G9 i5 12th Gen

12th Gen Hybrid Cores

The 12th Gen Core i5-1265U mixes performance cores with efficient cores. Big tasks go to the fast cores, while light background jobs use the efficient ones. It has 12MB cache and boosts up to 4.80 GHz.

A Taller 16:10 Screen

The 840 G9 uses a 14-inch WUXGA panel instead of the older 16:9 Full HD shape. WUXGA is 1920 x 1200, so you get extra height on the screen. You see more rows in Excel and more lines in a document.

A Big Step From the G8

Compared with the 840 G8, the G9 adds Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and a 5MP camera. It also gets Intel Iris Xe Graphics with the 12th Gen chip. These changes make it feel newer in daily use.

Design & Performance

Design and Build

The 840 G9 measures about 31.56 x 22.4 x 1.92 cm and starts at around 1.36 kg. It is compact for a 14-inch laptop and easy to carry all day. The silver business design looks clean in meetings.

The keyboard is spill-resistant and uses HP DuraKeys, with a privacy key. Backlight is listed as optional, so ask our team whether this unit has it. Bang & Olufsen dual stereo speakers and world-facing microphones support clear calls.

Performance in Daily Use

With 16GB RAM and a 512GB NVMe SSD, Windows starts quickly and many apps run together smoothly. Intel Iris Xe Graphics handle office work, video streaming and light photo edits. It is still not a gaming or 3D laptop.

The IPS anti-glare screen is rated at 250 nits, which suits indoor office use. Power comes from an HP Long Life 3-cell, 51 Wh Li-ion battery. Real battery time on a used unit depends on its battery health.

Who It's For

Hybrid and Remote Workers

People who work from home and office need good calls and fast Wi-Fi. The 5MP camera and Wi-Fi 6E help a lot here. The light 1.36 kg body moves easily between home, office and client meetings.

Professionals Who Want a Newer Model

Some buyers want something newer than the 8th or 10th Gen EliteBooks. The 12th Gen 840 G9 is a clear step up in daily use. You can also compare it with the newer HP EliteBook 840 G10 i5 on our site.

Spreadsheet and Document Users

The taller 16:10 screen shows more of your work without scrolling. This helps with long reports, legal contracts and big monthly spreadsheets. It feels roomier than older 14-inch laptop screens.

Simple Buying Guide

Confirm the RAM Type

The source lists the RAM as DDR4, but sources for this model differ. If RAM type matters for a future upgrade, ask our team before ordering. For daily use, 16GB is plenty for most office work.

Check Your Router for Wi-Fi 6E

Wi-Fi 6E works fully only with a Wi-Fi 6E router. With an older router, the laptop still connects at normal speeds. You do not need to change your router to use it.

Compare G8 and G9 Prices

The G8 costs less but misses some G9 features. Compare both before you decide. See the HP EliteBook 840 G8 for the older option.
