Want to optimize your gaming PC for better FPS without spending money on new parts first? This guide is for gamers in Bangladesh playing Valorant, PUBG, eFootball, GTA V, CS2 or newer titles on a desktop or gaming laptop. The short answer: update your graphics driver, turn on XMP or EXPO for your RAM, set Windows to performance mode, use an upscaler such as DLSS or FSR, keep the PC cool and dust-free, and make sure your monitor is actually running at its full refresh rate. Together, these free fixes often add a noticeable jump in frame rate and smoothness.
We have ordered the steps from easiest to most involved. Do them one by one and test a game you know well after each change, so you can see what actually helped.
How to Optimize Your Gaming PC for Better FPS: Quick Checklist
- Confirm your monitor runs at its full refresh rate.
- Install the latest graphics driver.
- Switch on Game Mode and the best performance power mode.
- Enable XMP or EXPO and run RAM in dual channel.
- Tune in-game settings and turn on upscaling.
- Clean dust and control temperatures.
- Use an SSD, Resizable BAR and variable refresh rate.
Step 1: Check Your Monitor Is Not Holding You Back
Start here, because it is the most common mistake we see. A 60Hz monitor can only show 60 frames every second. If your PC makes 140 FPS but your screen runs at 60Hz, the game will not look any smoother.
Even owners of 144Hz or 165Hz screens often run them at 60Hz without knowing. Check these three things:
- Windows setting: Go to Settings, System, Display, Advanced display, and choose the highest refresh rate in the list.
- Cable and port: Use DisplayPort or the HDMI port and cable that support the full refresh rate. VGA is limited and will not give you high refresh.
- Plug into the graphics card: On a desktop with a separate graphics card, connect the monitor to the ports on the graphics card, not the motherboard ports above it. This mistake alone can cut FPS badly.
If you are still on a 60Hz screen and your PC already makes more than 60 FPS, a high refresh monitor is the single upgrade you will feel most. A 23.8-inch IPS model like the PC Power PCGMX24F165B 165Hz monitor costs ৳11,300 at the time of writing.
Step 2: Update Your Graphics Driver
New drivers regularly add performance fixes for recent games. Download the latest driver only from the official source: the NVIDIA App for GeForce cards, AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition for Radeon cards, or Intel's driver tool for Arc and Intel graphics. Choose a clean installation if you have had crashes or stutter.
Also update Windows, and on laptops, install the chipset and graphics drivers from the laptop maker's support page.
Step 3: Windows Settings That Help Games
Turn on Game Mode
Open Settings, Gaming, Game Mode, and switch it on. It tells Windows to give the game priority and reduces background work like update installs while you play.
Set the power mode to best performance
In Settings, System, Power, set Power mode to Best performance. On a laptop, always plug in the charger while gaming. On battery, most laptops cut CPU and GPU power to save charge, and FPS drops sharply.
Choose the right graphics processor on laptops
Gaming laptops have two graphics chips. Go to Settings, System, Display, Graphics, add your game and set it to High performance, so it always uses the dedicated GPU.
Cut startup and background apps
Open Task Manager, go to Startup apps and disable programs you do not need at boot, such as chat apps, updaters and cloud sync tools. Close browsers with many tabs before playing. These apps eat RAM and CPU time in the background.
Step 4: Enable XMP or EXPO for Your RAM
Most desktop RAM kits are sold with a rated speed (such as DDR4-3200 or DDR5-6000) but run at a slower default speed until you enable the memory profile in the BIOS. On Intel boards it is called XMP; on AMD boards it is called EXPO or DOCP.
Restart, enter the BIOS (usually Delete or F2), find the memory profile option and turn it on. Then check in Task Manager, Performance, Memory that the speed has changed. Faster RAM helps most in CPU-heavy games like Valorant and CS2.
While you are there, check that your RAM runs in dual channel. Two sticks in the correct slots (see your motherboard manual) are much faster than one stick of the same total size, especially on PCs using integrated graphics.
Step 5: Smart In-Game Settings
You do not need to drop everything to Low. Some settings cost a lot of FPS for little visual gain:
- Shadows and volumetric fog/clouds: Usually the biggest FPS cost. Medium often looks almost the same as Ultra.
- Ray tracing: Beautiful but very heavy. Turn it off on mid-range cards.
- Upscaling: Turn on NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR or Intel XeSS in Quality or Balanced mode. The game renders at a lower resolution and rebuilds a sharp image, giving a big FPS boost.
- Frame generation: Adds extra frames for smoother motion, but works best when you already have around 60 FPS and can add input delay. Leave it off in competitive shooters.
- Low latency modes: Turn on NVIDIA Reflex or AMD Anti-Lag where the game supports it for a more responsive feel.
Step 6: Keep It Cool and Clean
Bangladesh's heat, humidity and dust are hard on gaming PCs. When a CPU or GPU gets too hot, it slows itself down to stay safe, which shows up as FPS drops after 20 or 30 minutes of play.
- Clean dust from fans, filters and heatsinks every two to three months with a soft brush or air blower.
- Keep the case off the carpet and leave space around the vents.
- On laptops, use a stand or cooling pad so air can reach the bottom intake.
- If a PC or laptop is several years old and still runs hot after cleaning, have a technician replace the thermal paste.
- Use a monitoring tool such as HWiNFO or MSI Afterburner to watch temperatures while you play.
Step 7: Storage, BIOS and Variable Refresh
Install your games on an SSD, ideally NVMe. It will not raise average FPS much, but it cuts loading times and texture pop-in. Keep at least 15% to 20% of the drive free.
On modern systems, enable Resizable BAR in the BIOS (AMD calls it Smart Access Memory). Many recent games gain a little performance with it.
If your monitor supports G-Sync or FreeSync, turn it on in the graphics control panel. Then cap your frame rate a few FPS below the monitor's refresh rate, for example 160 FPS on a 165Hz screen. This removes tearing and keeps frame times steady.
How to Choose Your Next Upgrade
If you have done every step and still want more, find your bottleneck first. Watch CPU and GPU usage in a monitoring overlay while you play.
| What you see | Likely bottleneck | Best upgrade |
|---|---|---|
| GPU usage near 100%, low FPS | Graphics card | Faster GPU, or use upscaling and lower resolution |
| GPU usage low, one CPU core at 100% | Processor | Faster CPU, faster RAM with XMP/EXPO |
| Stutter and RAM over 90% used | Memory | Upgrade to 16GB or 32GB in dual channel |
| High FPS but motion still looks choppy | Monitor | 144Hz to 240Hz gaming monitor |
| FPS drops after 20 to 30 minutes | Heat | Cleaning, thermal paste, better case airflow |
Gaming Monitors to Match Your FPS
Match your monitor to the FPS your PC can really hold. There is little point in a 240Hz screen if your games run at 90 FPS. Models in our stock:

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the fastest free way to get more FPS?
Update your graphics driver, turn on Game Mode and Best performance power mode, and enable DLSS, FSR or XeSS in the game. On a desktop, also enable XMP or EXPO in the BIOS. On a laptop, play with the charger connected. These steps cost nothing and often give the biggest gains for the time spent.
Why is my FPS high but the game still looks choppy?
Your monitor is probably running at 60Hz. Check the refresh rate in Windows advanced display settings, use DisplayPort or a suitable HDMI cable, and connect to the graphics card ports. If the screen is a true 60Hz model, a 144Hz or higher gaming monitor is needed to see the extra frames your PC is producing.
Does more RAM increase FPS?
Only if you are running out. Going from 8GB to 16GB often removes stutter in modern games, because 8GB fills up quickly with the game and Windows. Going from 16GB to 32GB rarely adds FPS for gaming alone. Running two sticks in dual channel and enabling XMP or EXPO usually matters more than adding capacity.
Does a hot room in summer really lower FPS?
Yes. Higher room temperature means your CPU and GPU reach their heat limits sooner and slow down to protect themselves. In Bangladesh summers this is common. Clean the dust, improve airflow, keep the PC away from walls and direct sun, and watch temperatures with a monitoring tool while playing.
