What Is the ThinkPad T14?

The T series is Lenovo's mainstream business line, sitting between the budget L and E series and the premium X1 Carbon. In 2020 the T14 replaced the T490, and the thinner T14s replaced the T490s. Lenovo has refreshed the design every year since, calling each refresh a new "Gen".

Buyers in Bangladesh like the T14 family for four reasons:

• Keyboard: deep key travel and the red TrackPoint, still one of the best keyboards on any laptop.
• Durability: built for corporate fleets that run for years.
• Service: Lenovo publishes detailed specs and parts information for every model.
• Choice of Intel or AMD: each generation came in both versions.

ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 vs Gen 2 vs Gen 3

Gen 1: the value pick

Gen 1 is the oldest and cheapest. The AMD version is the one to look for: the Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U has 6 cores and 12 threads, which is excellent for compiling code, running many browser tabs and light virtual machines at this price. The Intel 10th Gen version is quad-core and perfectly fine for office work.

Gen 2: the balanced pick

Gen 2 moved to 11th Gen Intel processors with Iris Xe graphics, a clear step up for photo editing and external monitors. AMD buyers got the Ryzen 5000 PRO series. If your budget reaches it, Gen 2 is the sweet spot.

Gen 3: the newest of the three

Gen 3 brought 12th Gen Intel and Ryzen 6000 PRO chips plus a 16:10 display, which shows more lines of text. Used Gen 3 units are less common in Bangladesh and cost more.

How to identify the generation

The generation is printed on the label under the laptop, or you can read the machine type (a four-character code such as 20xx) and look it up on Lenovo PSREF, Lenovo's official specification site. The processor name in Settings, About also tells you the generation quickly.

ThinkPad T14 vs T14s: Which One?

The key point is RAM. On a T14s, the memory you buy is the memory you keep forever. That is why we stock the T14s with 16GB, which is comfortable for programming and multitasking for years.

Lowest budget: ThinkPad T490 and T480s

If ৳38,000 is too much, the T490 that the T14 replaced costs ৳26,000, and the slim T480s costs ৳29,400. Both have quad-core 8th Gen processors and the same famous keyboard. View the ThinkPad T490 Core i5 8th Gen.

How to Choose the Right ThinkPad T14

• Coding and multitasking: pick an AMD Ryzen model for more cores, and make sure it has 16GB RAM.
• Office work and online meetings: any Gen 1 or Gen 2 model is more than enough.
• Light photo editing or two monitors: choose Gen 2 Intel with Iris Xe graphics.
• Always on the move: the T14s saves weight; just buy the RAM you need up front.
• Budget under ৳30,000: a T490 or T480s gives you the ThinkPad experience for less.

What to Check on a Used ThinkPad T14

1. Battery health: run a battery report in Windows or check Lenovo Vantage; compare full charge capacity with design capacity.
2. Keyboard and TrackPoint: test every key and make sure the TrackPoint does not drift.
3. BIOS and supervisor password: restart and press F1 to enter the BIOS. Corporate laptops sometimes arrive locked.
4. Screen: look for pressure marks and dead pixels on a white background.
5. USB-C charging: the T14 family charges over USB-C, so check that the port is firm and charges reliably.
6. Ports and Wi-Fi: test each USB port, HDMI, audio and Wi-Fi.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Lenovo ThinkPad T14 price in Bangladesh?

At Megabuy BD, a used ThinkPad T14s Gen 1 with a Ryzen 5 Pro 4650U, 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD costs ৳38,400, and a T14s Gen 2 with a Core i5 11th Gen, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD costs ৳43,900. Prices are at the time of writing; the product page always shows the current price.

Which is better, ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 or Gen 2?

Gen 2 is newer, with 11th Gen Intel and Iris Xe graphics or Ryzen 5000 PRO chips, so it is better for graphics and will stay relevant longer. Gen 1 costs less, and the Ryzen 5 PRO 4650U version is still excellent for coding and multitasking. Choose Gen 1 for value, Gen 2 if the budget allows.

Can I upgrade the RAM on a ThinkPad T14s?

No. The T14s has all of its memory soldered to the motherboard, so you cannot add more later. That is why it is important to buy a T14s with enough RAM from the start. For programming, office multitasking and long-term use, we recommend 16GB, which is what our T14s units come with.

Is the ThinkPad T14 good for programming?

Yes. The keyboard is excellent for long typing sessions, and the AMD Ryzen models offer six or more cores that speed up builds and virtual machines. Pair it with 16GB RAM and an SSD and it handles web development, Python, Java and light Android work very well. It is not designed for gaming.
