About the Apple MacBook Pro 2017

The Two-Port 13-inch Model

This MacBook Pro from 2017 has a 2.3GHz dual-core Core i5. That chip was used in Apple's 13-inch model with two Thunderbolt 3 ports and normal function keys. It does not have the Touch Bar found on some other 2017 models.

Intel Inside a Mac

Until late 2020, Mac laptops used Intel processors. This 7th Gen Intel chip runs macOS and can also handle normal office and web apps. Newer Apple M1 Macs are faster, but they also cost more.

Memory, Storage and Graphics

The laptop has 8GB LPDDR3 memory at 2133MHz and a 256GB SSD. Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 drives the Retina screen. Memory on this model is fixed, so plan to use the 8GB it has.

Design & Performance

Design and Build

The MacBook Pro measures about 11.97 x 8.36 x 0.59 inches and weighs about 1.37kg. Its metal body feels solid and looks clean on any desk. The backlit keyboard helps when you work in a dim room.

A 720p FaceTime HD camera sits above the screen for video calls. Stereo speakers with high dynamic range give clear sound for music and meetings. Two microphones and a 3.5mm headphone jack round out the audio side.

Performance in Daily Use

For Safari, Google Docs, Pages and email, this MacBook feels smooth. The SSD makes the system start quickly and opens files fast. Light photo editing in Photos or Lightroom works for small projects.

It is a dual-core chip, so very heavy work like long 4K video edits will be slow. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 handle wireless internet, earbuds and a mouse. Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports handle charging, data and video output.

Who It's For

Students Trying a Mac

Many students want a MacBook but cannot afford a new one. A used 2017 MacBook Pro lets them learn macOS at a lower cost. It handles notes, research, slides and online classes well for most courses.

Writers and Web Designers

The Retina screen makes text and web pages look very sharp. Writers can work for hours with comfortable, clear fonts. Web designers can check layouts and images on a high-resolution display before sharing work.

iPhone Users

If you already use an iPhone, a Mac fits into your daily routine. Photos, notes and messages can sync between your devices with an Apple ID. You can find more devices on our Apple products page to build your setup.

Simple Buying Guide

Check the macOS Support

Older Intel Macs do not get every new macOS version. Ask our team which macOS version is installed on this unit. Make sure your important apps support that version.

Plan for USB-C Adapters

This MacBook has Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, not full-size USB ports. You may need an adapter or hub for pen drives and HDMI. Budget for one if you use older devices.

Consider a Laptop Stand

A raised screen helps your neck during long work hours. Our laptop stand range fits 13-inch laptops like this one. Pair it with an external keyboard for best comfort.

Easy Steps to Check Before You Order
